In 1872, George Huntington, a doctor from Ohio, wrote a paper, "On Chorea". Using his fathers patients as examples, he described the symptoms and talked in detail about HD's hereditary nature. HD is disease in which a person will feel slight uncontrollable muscle movements and emotional changes and swings. If a person has HD, they will not have the symptoms for a while. A person will start to get symptoms when they are older, but if varies from person to person. It is an inherited disease, so a parent that has the disorder has a 50% chance of having a child with the disorder.
